What GenScan® Tests

What GenScan® Tests

Save money, time and protect your health – one test is all what you need!

The tested diseases and disorders

1. Cardiovascular Diseases

Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in our population. This consists of a diverse group of diseases whose causes and manifestations are interlinked. The function of all organs is dependent on the supply of blood, i.e., a well-functioning heart and blood vessels, whose dysfunctions are often the result of many factors, both genetic (congenital predisposition) and non-genetic (external influences). GenScan® tests the following:-

  • Atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arteries)

  • Thrombosis (blood clots)

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)

  • Ictus (stroke)

  • Myocardial Infarction (heart attack)

2. Pulmonary Diseases

Pulmonary tissues are highly sensitive to various different factors which could result in the onset of a disease. The GenScan® analysis focuses on the following:-

  • Lung cancer

  • Pulmonary Emphysema

3. Cancer

Approximately one in three persons will face some type of cancer during their lifetime. An important factor which affects the success rate of treatment is the early diagnosis and detection of tumours. The GenScan® analysis focuses on the following:-

  • Breast and ovarian cancer*

  • Prostate cancer

4. Immunological Diseases

One of the most complex signaling systems in our body is the immune system. A fault in this system can lead to the development and occurrence of various diseases, such as autoimmune diseases, infectious complications, the development of many types of tumours, macular degeneration, osteoporosis, arteriosclerosis and many more. GenScan® analyses the following:-

  • Susceptibility to inflammatory diseases

  • Resistance to the HIV virus

  • Macular degeneration (age-related loss of vision)

5. Autoimmune Diseases

Autoimmune diseases are a manifestation of the increased reactivity of the immune system to antigens produced by the body’s own tissues. These diseases are known for the fact that their manifestations can and often change as the person ages. It is also not rare for different, additional symptoms to gradually appear, for new hypersensitivity to other antigens to develop or for a combination of both to occur with the development of various allergies and inflammatory complications. In the GenScan® analysis, we target the following:-

  • Bechterew’s disease (Ankylosing spondylitis)

6. Neurological Disorders

In the wide field of neurology, the GenScan® analysis focuses on the connection between congenital predispositions and memory. In particular, GenScan® gives you the knowledge about your genetic predisposition for the following:-

  • Memory capacity

  • Alzheimer's disease

7. Metabolism

The metabolism is an intricate system of biochemical reactions to sustain the body’s activity and life processes. Each tissue has its own specific metabolism. Although we mainly speak of the metabolism of sugars, fats and proteins, there is also the metabolism of bone tissue, adipose tissue, nerve tissue, water, minerals, alcohol and other components. The vital role of the metabolism of essential nutrients lies in the fact that it provides energy for the function of individual organs and systems in the body. Therefore a disorder at this level inevitably leads to a more complex disorder of the whole body. The spectrum of investigated panels includes genes that are closely associated with the metabolism of essential nutrients and which, together with lifestyle, lead to manifestations of so-called metabolic syndrome in the clinical picture. In particular, we focus on your genetic risk factors of the following:-

  • Type II diabetes mellitus

  • Obesity

  • Osteoporosis (loss of bone mass and density with increased risk of fracture)

  • Hemochromatosis (iron overload)

8. Metabolic Detoxification

Not only is detoxification essential for the removal of our own metabolites, but also for the ability to eliminate toxins from food, water, the air or the skin. The activity of individual enzymes, for example, determines how quickly we are able to eliminate toxic substances from smoking, roasted meats and other carcinogenic sources. A classic example is the metabolism of alcohol or caffeine contained in caffeinated beverages (coffee, cola drinks, etc.). GenScan® detects the following:-

  • Detoxification ability

  • Metabolism of caffeine and alcohol

  • Coeliac disease (gluten allergy)

  • Lactose intolerance

* Only available if combined with GynGen® breast and ovarian cancer test.
