Phlebotomy Services

GHC GENETICS UK offers easily accessible phlebotomy services on both an appointment and walk in basis

Prior to attending, it is important to ensure that all Referral Forms are completed highlighting the following:

  • Requesting Physician details
  • Patient name and date of birth
  • Clinical details where needed
  • Reporting address
  • Test required
  • Billing / invoice Information
  • Patient/Physician consent

Please note that incomplete Request Forms cannot be processed

Samples Via Post

Suitable for all doctors and healthcare providers

Simple and convenient way delivering samples to us anywhere in the country

Clients are responsible for correct packaging of samples inside an appropriate leak proof bags and container; all samples must be packed to avoid container breakage, sample loss and contamination through leakage

Postal packs must be accepted by Royal Mail and labelled with ‘Biological Substance Category B’, the Diamond Mark and UN3373; samples not expected to contain pathogens should be labelled ‘Exempt Human Specimen’ (please contact GHC for postal packs at no additional cost)

Turnaround times for tests are detailed in this laboratory guide and are quoted from the time of receipt in the laboratory

Sample Labelling

All samples must be properly labelled and include the following information:

  • First name, Surname, Date of birth, Hospital/Clinic number, Medical Record Number (MRN)
  • Time and Date of collection of samples
  • Type of sample and Anatomical site, where appropriate (e.g. swabs)
  • Relevant clinical information
  • Relevant details of medication
  • High Risk Samples should be clearly identified on the form and individually packed separately from other samples
  • Hazard Group 4 pathogens (such as Ebola or Viral Haemorrhagic Fever) must not be sent to the laboratory – please contact the National Fever Service on 0844 778 8990 for advice before sending samples to the laboratory
